How to Hook Up a Suction Line to an In-Ground Pool

Your swimming pool pump has natural suction, since it is used to circulate the water throughout the pool. Water circulation prevents the buildup of algae as well as dirt in areas where it may collect. Even with circulation, dirt may build up in the pool, which requires vacuuming. Adding a suction line to the pump to hook up a vacuum head for the cleaning of the pool is a part of regular pool upkeep any pool owner needs to know.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the skimmer basket from the skimmer you are not using for your suction line. You want to vacuum the pool with the skimmer closest to the pool pump.

    • 2

Plug the skimmer with a #10 rubber plug inside the suction fitting.

    • 3

Immerse your pool line into the water and allow it to fill.

    • 4

Attach a skimmer disk to the end of the suction line.

    • 5

Remove the skimmer basket from the other skimmer, and attach the suction line to the bottom of the skimmer using the disk. Push down to attach.
