DIY Acrylic Textured Pool Decks

Acrylic pool decks are made from a combination of concrete and acrylic resin. Acrylic concrete provides traction and can be custom designed with stains, acid washes and textures to suit any homeowner's outdoor decor style. It is possible to use acrylic concrete as the entire foundation for the slab, but you can save costs by applying the material over existing concrete decks. Making your own blend is often more cost-effective than buying preblended acrylic concrete.

Instructions

    • 1

Frame the area where the acrylic cement will be laid. Build the frame box with 2-by-4 planks, hammering the corners to secure the frame in place. Roll the fiberglass screen mesh over the frame. Staple the mesh in place on the frame with the staple gun.

    • 2

Mix one part cement with three parts of sand in the mixer.

    • 3

Add one part of water with one part of acrylic latex to the mixer until the solution begins to have the consistency of peanut butter. Too much water makes a weaker final product. Slowly add parts to maintain proper consistency.

    • 4

Trowel the acrylic cement to the pool deck, coating the deck evenly. Work in small sections, taking a bucket full of acrylic cement over at a time to prevent the whole batch from setting.

    • 5

Brush the surface with a soft bristled broom before it sets to create the texture. Acrylic cement sets in about 30 minutes.
