How to Repair a Ripped Vinyl Hot Tub Lid

Dirt is an abrasive and can break down a hot tub lid's material, making it weaker and more susceptible to ripping. Fortunately, hot tub manufacturers offer a vinyl repair patch kit to address this issue. The clear patches seal the tear and prolong the life of the lid. Most vinyl repair kits, specifically any marketed as suitable for repairing pool vinyl, should work just as well to repair a vinyl hot tub lid.

Instructions

    • 1

Mix a solution of half water and half rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle. Spray the mixture on the rip and at least one inch on each side of the rip. Wipe it until dry and all the dirt or other residue is removed.

    • 2

Cut a patch from the vinyl repair material that is one inch larger on all sides than the rip in the lid. Use more than one patch if necessary. Cut all the square corners into rounded corners.

    • 3

Peel the liner about 1/2 inch from the back of the patch.

    • 4

Position the patch over the rip so that it extends one inch on all sides from the rip. If the rip is on an edge, extend one inch of the patch off of the edge.

    • 5

Peel the rest of the liner off of the patch.

    • 6

Rub the patch to seal it and remove any air bubbles. If the patch is applied to an edge, fold the patch over the edge and seal it to the back of the cover.

    • 7

Allow the patch to sit for 24 hours before disturbing the lid.
