How to Use a Hot Tub As a Pool

During the summer months, when the hot water of a spa is not as desirable, you can use the tub as a pool instead. Since both pools and hot tubs use similar sanitizing chemicals, keeping the water cool is all that is required for the hot tub to function as a pool. There are a few obstacles to overcome, because a hot tub's inclination is to heat the water, but a few tricks ensure the water stays cool enough to enjoy during warmer weather.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the hot tub thermostat's temperature to below 85 degrees Fahrenheit, or turn the heater off.

    • 2

Remove the cover and turn on the air jets to circulate the water, which helps reduce the water temperature.

    • 3

Keep the cover on the hot tub when it's not in use. Keeping the hot tub covered insulates it and prevents sunlight from warming the water.

    • 4

Run the spa at night with the heater and cover off as often as possible to cool the water.
