What Is Causing Me to Have to Manually Start the Hot Tub Pump?

Most late-model hot tubs have two-speed pumps that turn on and off at intervals according to a factory pre-set filtration cycle. These pumps skim the water and keep it filtered. Although circulation pumps in use today are energy efficient, you can get additional energy savings by overriding the factory defaults and selecting longer on/off intervals in the hot tub's automatic filtration settings. During the extended "Off" cycles, the pump does not run unless manually initiated by pushing the jet control button. If you frequently discover that your circulation pump isn't running and must be manually turned on, it's probably because the tub's filtration cycle has been set to a long "Off" interval, sometimes identified as an "Economy" setting. In hot tubs such as the Jacuzzi J-200, filtration cycle settings are accessible from the control panel.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the "Warmer (+)" and "Cooler (-)" buttons on the control panel.

    • 2

Press and hold both buttons at the same time to enter the filtration cycle settings.

    • 3

Press the "Warmer (+)" or "Cooler (-)" button individually to scroll down the filtration cycle options from F1 to F6. F1 through F3 are standard modes in which the pump runs for four, six or eight hours per day, respectively, and the heater is operated by the thermostat. F4 through F6 are economy modes in which the pump runs for four, six or eight hours per day, respectively, and the heater operates only during the timed intervals.

    • 4

Scroll to either F3 or F6 for longer daily pump and filtration times.

    • 5

Press and hold the "Warmer (+)" and "Cooler (-)" buttons on the control panel at the same time to exit the filtration cycle settings.

    • 6

Set the time for the first filtration cycle of the day by turning the power to the spa off and then immediately back on two minutes before the desired first filtration cycle time.
