How to Install Inground Pool Lights Without Using Electricity

Illuminating inground pools once required many hours of costly electrical work. Distributing power through water-tight fixtures, conduits and connections was basically the only way to light a pool from beneath the waterline. However, advances in solar lighting now provide an alternative to the old, labor-intensive method. Solar-operated pool lights can be installed without the need for electrical hardware or wiring. Solar pool lights are designed to work under or above the waterline and can usually be installed without having to drain any water from the pool.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Use a tape measure to determine the distance the pool lights will be from each other along the sides and ends of the inground pool.

    • 2

Use a strip of duct tape to mark the location where you will install each pool light. Place the tape on the edge of the pool for referencing.

    • 3

Place a small amount of the underwater-bonding epoxy glue on a flat, disposable surface, such as plastic or cardboard.

    • 4

Use a putty knife to blend the yellow epoxy with an equal amount of blue hardening agent (supplied with the epoxy). Blend until the mixture turns green.

    • 5

Use the putty knife to apply the epoxy mixture to the back of the solar light mounting bracket. Cover the surface uniformly, trimming any excess from the edges.

    • 6

Press the solar light mounting bracket tightly against the designated surface for the time directed by on the epoxy package. Position the light so that the solar panel faces up.

    • 7

Repeat Steps 5 and 6 for the remaining lights.
