How to Clean Fiberglass Swimming Pools With Salt

A salt-water pool produces chlorine constantly by the process of electrolysis. The pool water passes through a chlorine generator, which houses food grade salt, creating hypochlorous acid -- which sanitizes the pool water. This alleviates the need to constantly handle, store and replace potentially harmful chlorine tablets. Despite the ease of chlorine production, the pool and water must still be properly maintained to avoid unwanted algae buildup. Cleaning your pool takes time and effort.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the surface of the pool with a pool skimmer to remove fallen leaves, bugs and other debris floating on the water.

    • 2

Scrub the sides of the pool with a pool brush. This helps to remove any growing algae, which will be vacuumed later.

    • 3

Clean the floor using the pool vacuum. Attach the vacuum to the pool filter and scrub the floor to eliminate algae buildup.

    • 4

Clean the chlorine generator cell. This typically only needs to be done about once a year to maintain proper chlorine generation. Remove the cell from the plumbing, then clean the cell with muriatic acid and water, using a plastic brush to remove calcium deposits and other build-up.
