How to Enclose a Hot Tub

Hot tub enclosures don't have to look fancy or cost a lot of money. The more expensive options are the custom commercial products. Other solutions can be created by the consumer. Enclosures are often used as a windbreak; the protection helps the water stay warmer and keeps heating costs down. These enclosures also provide privacy and make the hot tub area feel more like a retreat.

Instructions

Install a commercial hot tub enclosure product. Some are translucent domes you set over the top of the spa. The enclosure is usually anchored to a foundation material such as concrete, decking or pavers. Other models are gazebos. They come in several pieces and you must assemble the walls, headers, and roof frames and panels around the spa.

Place privacy panels around the hot tub. Panels come in wood and composite materials. They connect together, usually with screws, to make the panel length as long as needed. Some pieces can connect into a pergola for more protection from the elements. Depending on the panel product you choose, it may be necessary to dig post holes for installation. Other products can be used freestanding or mounted. Install panels around three sides of the hot tub to allow access; place the panels on the sides most affected by wind.

Landscape around the hot tub to enclose it. Choose tall shrubs and other tall, full plants or trees. Do not choose thorny bushes or fruiting trees, which attract bees, since the area around the hot tub is high traffic.
