Hayward Centrifugal Pool Motor Switch Is Stuck

Hayward brand pool heat pumps are designed to help maintain the hot water temperature for both home and residential swimming pools. The heat pump has a centrifugal switch that is partially responsible for the proper functioning of the pump motor, which means that problems with the centrifugal switch cause problems with the pump motor. Tackling this issue requires some knowledge of the Hayward pump operating components and should not be done by individuals who are not confident in their ability to inspect and troubleshoot the heat pump motor.

     Disconnect power to the Hayward pool pump and allow the unit to cool completely.

     Remove the screws holding the motor cover in place and set the screws and cover aside.

   • 3

     Locate the centrifugal switch on the lower right hand side of the pump, which is set in front of the white plastic V-shaped device. The switch looks like several springs connected to a piece of metal.

     Push the springs back into the direction of the metal plate until the metal pieces are re-centered.

   • 5

     Close and secure the motor cover and restore power.
