Why Is My Polaris Pool Cleaner Stuck?

Polaris pool cleaners automatically sweep the bottom of the pool to clean up debris and pull water into the unit where the water can be filtered and then dispensed back into the pool. The pool cleaner has wheels for movement and is connected to a feeder hose above the water. If the pool cleaner gets stuck, there are a few possible reasons why.
  1. Hose Length

    • The leader hose and the feed hose on the Polaris pool cleaner must allow the cleaner to move freely within the pool to help prevent the cleaner from getting stuck. When the leader hose and the feed hose are connected together, the combined hoses must reach within 6 inches of the farthest point in the pool from the originating point. If the hose length is too short, contact Polaris for an additional feed hose section as well as a swivel and two hose nuts to add length to the hoses and allow additional movement to the cleaner.

    Tangled Hose

    • Check the feed hose for kinks or tangles, which can stop the pool cleaner from moving. Adjust the length of the hose and move any obstructions or items that may restrict the hose from reaching the correct length. Check the hose connections and make sure the connections can turn freely so that the hose may move as the pool cleaner moves through the water.

    Wheels

    • Sometimes the wheels may not be moving fast enough, which may cause the Polaris pool cleaner to seem stuck. Lift the pool cleaner out of the pool and dry off the tires with a towel, then mark the single-wheel side of the tire. Activate the power on the pump and lift the cleaner back down into the water. When the wheel is spinning in the water, count the number of revolutions per minute. The wheel should turn between 30 and 36 rpm. If the rpm is less than 30, open the adjustable valve on the cleaner line and check the filter screen for debris. Clean the filter, skimmer and pump basket to remove any debris that might slow down the water flow to the cleaner and take off the blue restrictor disk from the feeder hose connector. This will increase the water flow to the unit and allow the pool cleaner to propel forward faster.

    Thrust Jet Adjustment

    • The Polaris pool cleaner has a thrust jet to power the cleaner forward. While the thrust jet was set at the factory and should be sufficient to keep the cleaner moving, if the pool cleaner gets stuck, move the jet switch up slightly to increase the thrust power.
