Blue Wave Pool Installation

Installing a Blue Wave pool is not a difficult task, but it does require that you read and follow the specific directions for your model swimming pool. This hard-sided above-ground pool has a metal track that holds the pool’s walls. Once the track is set in place, the vinyl liner goes inside the pool’s walls. While one person can set up a Blue Wave pool, the job goes faster if you have two or three assistants. Before you begin the pool installation, contact the local building codes office to secure any building permits you may need.

Instructions

    • 1

Identify a level spot to set the above-ground pool. It’s okay to remove dirt to level the pool’s site, but never add fill dirt, because it can shift and cause the pool’s walls to collapse. Clear the spot you select with a shovel to remove all of the grass growing there, as well as any rocks or debris. Check that the location for the pool’s installation is level with a carpenter’s level or a transit.

    • 2

Place 2 to 6 inches of sand over the base area of the pool. Rake the sand to level it. Compact the sand with a lawn roller or a hand tamper. Check the levelness of the area when you finish with the level or transit. Add or remove sand as necessary to level the sand. Lay a tarp over the sand to protect it.

    • 3

Slide one end of a piece of metal track into the next piece, following the specific directions for your Blue Wave pool. As you finish connecting the numerous pieces of track, you complete a circular or oval base frame, depending on the shape of the pool. Place the frame around the sandy area you prepared. Slide concrete pavers placed at ground level underneath the vertical upright bases to provide support. Check for levelness as you position the frame and pavers.

    • 4

Unroll the swimming pool wall, placing its long edge in the metal track. When the wall is in place in the track, join the ends with connectors provided with the swimming pool installation kit. Cover the connectors with duct tape to keep them from rubbing against the vinyl liner.

    • 5

Insert the vertical posts into the upright bases. Fasten each post to its base with connectors from the assembly kit.

    • 6

Remove the tarp. Add sand, if necessary, against the inside of the pool's wall. Place high-density foam coving against the wall. The coving forms a 45-degree angle between the pool’s base and the wall and provides a layer of protection for the vinyl liner. If you prefer, you can build coving by compacting sand at a 45-degree angle between the pool’s base and walls.

    • 7

Slide the vinyl liner inside the pool’s walls. Take off your shoes as you work the wrinkles out of the liner inside the pool. Pull the edges of the vinyl liner up and over the edge of the pool’s walls. Clip the liner to the walls with clips provided in the assembly kit.

    • 8

Add 1 to 2 inches of water to the pool. Check the pool’s depth for levelness. If you need to level the sand some more, remove the liner clips and pull back the liner temporarily to level the sand. Replace the liner and its clips.

Connect the pieces of the top rail, following the manufacturer’s directions. Set the top rail in position. Tuck excess liner under the top rail. Align the top plate sections on the top rail to the vertical uprights. Fasten them with connectors from the assembly kit.

    • 10

Fill the pool to a point 2 inches below the location of the pool’s skimmer and water return system for the pool's pump. Follow the manufacturer’s directions for cutting the hole in the wall and liner for installation of the skimmer and return. Finish filling the pool with water.
