What Is the Best Way to Take Down a Pool Screen?

Pool screens are outdoor enclosures set up around pools to keep bugs, snakes, ducks and leaves from getting into your pool. They are usually used in areas with a high concentration of foliage and insects, like Florida. If you don’t want your pool screened off anymore you can remove the screens from the enclosure and dismantle the frame. However, if the enclosure is cemented into the ground you might have to use a jackhammer to get it up.

Instructions

    • 1

Pop the screens out of the enclosure by pulling on the tabs that hold them in place. The screens should come out of the aluminum frame easily when you pull on the tab.

    • 2

Unscrew the nuts or screws holding the aluminum frame together from the top to the bottom. After removing the screws, remove the part of the frame the screw held in place. It’s best to have a helper hold the frame while you unscrew it so it doesn’t fall on your head. Dismantle as much of the frame as possible, until only the parts cemented to the ground remain.

Put on safety goggles and ear muffs to protect your hearing.

Position the jackhammer over the cement holding the frame in place and turn it on. Push the jackhammer into the cement and chip at it until the frame’s leg is free. Remove the leg from the cement. Repeat this process on the entire frame.
