Take a sample of the pool’s water before you begin, using a water sample test kit. The pH should be between 7.2 and 7.8. Total alkalinity should be within the range of 60 to 120 parts per million. Calcium hardness should range between 150 and 400. There should be fewer than 1500 parts per million of total dissolved solids. Stabilizer should range between 20 and 80 parts per million. Free chlorine should be between 0.50 and 1.0 parts per million. If any of these are out of range, add the appropriate product to bring the water within acceptable limits.
Turn off electrical power to the swimming pool filtration system.
Wrap Teflon tape around both ends of the short piece of polyvinyl chloride, or PVC, pipe that comes with the installation kit. Screw one end of the pipe into the opening on the pool’s filter return. Tighten the pipe no more than two turns with an adjustable wrench, but do not over tighten.
Screw the Pool Frog Cycler 5100 onto the other end of the piece of PVC pipe. Tighten it so the Cycler is upright. Do not over tighten the connection.
Wrap Teflon tape around the threads of a hose adapter. Secure the hose adapter into the opening on the Cycler. Do not over tighten the connection.
Push the open end of the pool’s filter return hose onto the open end of the hose adapter. Slide a hose clamp onto the end of the hose. Secure the hose clamp with a screwdriver.
Turn power back on to the swimming pool pump.
Open the top of the Cycler and insert a Frog Cycler mineral reservoir into the opening. Close the Cycler. Monitor mineral numbers daily and adjust the Cycler as necessary to keep the water balanced.
