Use a salt detector to keep track of the salt concentration in the pool. When the salt falls below the recommended level, add more salt. However, the display on the salt detector has a delay when reading salt concentrations. If the salt concentration is still too low, wait one to two days before adding more salt.
Obtain a calculator that tests pool water salinity. Enter the volume of pool water in gallons.
Determine the volume of the pool by multiplying the length, width, average depth and multiplier. The multiplier considers the shape of the swimming pool and is “7.5” for rectangle, square and free-form pools. It is “5.9” for round or oval pools.
Determine the current pool salinity, with fresh water pools having no salinity. The calculator will provide the values needed to determine how much salt to add.
