How to Replace Debris Basket on Pentair Dynamo Pool Pumps

The debris basket in a Pentair Water Pool and Spa Dynamo aboveground pool pump, Pentair part #354548, removes debris in the water passing through the pump to help prevent system clogs that slow water flow. It also removes debris to protect the impeller. The basket isn’t held inside the pump housing with any locking mechanisms that require the use of special tools. As a result, replacement simply involves prepping the pump for removal of the basket and accessing the basket in the pump housing.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your Pentair Water Pool and Spa Dynamo pool pump.

    • 2

Bleed air from the system to relieve pressure build up per your specific pump and filter setup. This involves opening an air pressure bleeder valve on your specific pool filter's assembly and waiting for the pressure to drop.

    • 3

Unplug or disconnect your Dynamo pump from the main power source. Once the pump is no longer receiving electricity, close its discharge and suction valves.

    • 4

Grasp the handle on the clear lid on top of the pump and turn it counterclockwise to unscrew it from the pump. Lift the lid up from the pump housing. Check the lid O-ring (Pentair part #354533) for damage. If you see damage, remove it and set it aside for disposal.

    • 5

Grasp the handle of the debris basket inside the pump. Lift the basket carefully straight up out of the pump housing. Set the basket aside.

    • 6

Remove the new basket from its packaging. Holding it by its handle, slide it vertically into the pump housing. If the system requires a new O-ring, install it at this time. When you're finished, screw the lid clockwise securely on to the pump housing.

Reconnect the pump to the power source. Open the valves to refill the pump with water. Turn on the pump.
