How to Use an Insulating Sheet for a Home Spa

An insulating sheet that floats on the water of your home spa can help keep the water warmer and reduce evaporation, lowering the cost of operating the spa. Use the sheet, also known as a thermal blanket, in addition to the rigid hot tub cover for extra insulation, especially during winter months. The sheet also increases the life of your rigid cover, by reducing the amount of water vapor the rigid cover absorbs. The sheet is easy to remove when you're ready to use your spa. Fold it back out of the way and replace it when you're done using the spa.

Instructions

    • 1

Uncover the spa and lay the insulating sheet on top. Let the ends of the sheet hang over the sides of the spa.

    • 2

Carefully cut the sheet to the shape of your spa, so the sheet fits just inside the spa, floating on the water. Cut the basic shape first, then cut out any indentations for items such as seats, a filter housing or cup holders.

    • 3

Allow the sheet to float on the surface of the water. Replace the rigid spa cover.
