Clean the crack thoroughly and vigorously with a brush and water. Remove any tiny pieces of concrete that may be sitting in or near the crack. Pour one part water and one part Muriatic acid into a small bucket. Mix only enough to cover the area of the crack. Pour the solution onto the crack. The solution bubbles.
Pour water onto the acid residue after the solution boils for a minute or two. Scrub the area with a stiff brush. Determine the amount of PTA bonder and water you need. You must mix two parts PTA bonder with one part water, but keep half of the water in a separate bucket for the first mixing phase. Mix half of the water and PTA bonder together in a bucket for two minutes.
Let the PTA bonder and water sit for three minutes. At this time, open the pre-mixed Kool Deck concrete container. Pour 24 ounces of water into the bucket and stir until the mixture is fully blended.
Pour the remaining water into the PTA bonder solution. Mix until the solution is well blended.
Spray the area of the crack with cold water. Dip the applicator into the PTA bonder solution and apply the bonder to the crack by rubbing the applicator along the crack in back-and-forth motions. The coat should sufficiently cover the crack.
Pour the pre-mixed Kool Deck concrete on top of the applied PTA bonder. If the mixture splashes to other areas of the deck, clean up the excess with water and a brush immediately. Wait for the glaze to disappear from the surface of the applied Kool Deck mixture.
Trowel the area by pressing down the Kool Deck mixture, making it even with the deck. Lay plastic sheeting over the repaired area, and pour sand on the plastic to keep it in place. Dispose of the plastic after 48 hours, and spray the repaired area with cold water and scrub gently with a brush. Mortex suggests rinsing and brushing the area at least twice a week for six weeks for best results.
