How to Install an 18 by 33 Foot Oval Overlap Liner in an Above-Ground Pool

An overlap pool liner is one of the easiest above-ground pool liners to install. The liner is large enough so it is installed in the pool and the liner hangs over the edge of the walls. Installation usually takes at least two people because the liner must be held in place while coping is installed at the top of the pool wall over the liner. Installation only takes a few hours before the pool is ready to fill, assuming that you have already leveled the ground and installed the sand.

Instructions

    • 1

Unpack your pool liner from the box. Place the liner inside the walls of your above-ground-pool with the smooth side facing towards the ground.

    • 2

Unfold the liner. Turn it as you go so the long sides of the liner match up with the long sides of the pool.

    • 3

Smooth out all of the wrinkles in the vinyl as you go.

    • 4

Lift the edges of the liner over the walls of the pool and pull it to the outside. Allow the liner to overlap 6 inches down the side of the pool.

    • 5

Leave the liner hanging slack and place coping on top of the pool walls.

    • 6

Fill the pool with water. As the pool fills up, smooth out the wrinkles and press the liner to the walls.

    • 7

Remove one section of the coping at a time and gently pull up on the liner to remove all wrinkles. Once the pool is full and the wrinkles are gone, replace the coping in that section and move to the next. Trim away any overlapping coping with a utility knife.

Fold under any liner hanging down below the coping and tape it to the pool wall under the edge of the coping.
