Installation of a 10 x 16 Rectangle Inground Pool

Installing a 10-foot-by-16-foot rectangle inground pool in your backyard not only provides years of fun and recreational activity, it can also raise the market value of your home. Unlike an above ground pool, an inground pool is a permanent structure that takes some time to plan and install. If you want to install an inground pool yourself, you can use an inground pool kit, which contains all the materials you need to complete the project.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the underground piping and wires that run under your house. It is important to know where these wires are so you don't accidentally cut or damage them while installing your pool.

    • 2

Contact your appropriate county or state office to make sure you get the right building permits to install your pool. Your local building inspector's office will be able to help you get the appropriate permits and let you know if you are in compliance with the building codes for your area.

    • 3

Choose where you want to install the pool. Select a level area in your yard that can accommodate a 10-foot-by-16-foot pool. A spot that has plenty of sunshine and room for accessories such as pool deck, and that is easily seen from your house, is an ideal location.

    • 4

Decide what material you want to use to construct the pool. Vinyl, fiberglass and concrete are some of the materials that are available. Choose the material that best fits your budget and pool design.

    • 5

Excavate the pool area. Hire a contractor to dig out the precise area to fit a 10-by-16 rectangle pool, or rent a backhoe to complete the job. Remove enough earth to reach the desired depth you want the pool to have.

    • 6

Install the wall panels along the sides of the inside of the hole. The wall panels will create a frame for the pool. Install the step or steps at the pool's shallow end.

    • 7

Install the skimmer and any other materials that are a part of the framework, then brace the walls, steps and framework. Add concrete to create a strong support. This is necessary because the pool's walls and framework will be under a lot of pressure when it is full of water.

    • 8

Install the pool filter and all other plumbing and electrical equipment needed to run the pool, then run the lines to the pool.

    • 9

Install the pool's floor. Use a concrete mix to create the pool's floor and use a trowel to even and smooth the surface.

    • 10

Install the pool's liner by placing it in the pool and using a brush to smooth it out as you lay it.

    • 11

Connect the plumbing and electrical systems to the pool, then fill the pool with water.

    • 12

Add any extra equipment such as a diving board or a ladder, then use concrete to secure them.

    • 13

Pour concrete to create the deck around the pool. Start a daily or weekly monitoring routine to clean the pool, check the water's chlorine level and the status of the pool's equipment.
