Locate a sturdy internal or external wall on which to hang the fountain. When choosing a location, ensure it is near an electrical outlet and that the cord of the fountain is long enough to reach the outlet. Manufacturers advise against using extension cords when hooking up wall fountains.
Lay the front mask portion of the fountain down on the ground or another soft surface so that no damage occurs. Cut two wine corks in half using a utility knife, and glue the four pieces of the cork to each back corner of the fountain using construction adhesive. The cork provides room for the water tubing to slide behind the fountain.
Locate the hole through which the water flows and move upward by about 2 to 3 inches. Draw a pencil line on the location. Install a 1/4-inch diameter bit into a drill and don safety glasses.
Place the bit on the pencil mark and then angle the handle of the drill down toward the bottom of the fountain until it reaches a 45-degree angle. Squeeze the trigger to drill a 1-inch deep hole at a 45-degree angle. If the fountain is thinner, reduce the hole depth to 1/2 inch.
Walk to the wall where you want to install the fountain, and locate a wall stud if it is drywall. If the wall is a masonry or stone surface, choose a location in the mortar, not the brick. Place the drill bit on the wall and angle it upward at 45 degrees. Squeeze the trigger to create a 1 1/2-inch deep hole angled downward.
Insert a 3-inch long, 1/4-inch diameter wooden down into the wall hole and tap it gently with a hammer. If the surface is drywall, insert a plastic wall anchor into the hole first.
Insert the end of a piece of vinyl tubing through the back of the fountain mask where the water hole opening is.
Stretch the vinyl tubing over the wall or down the wall depending on whether you are inside or outside. If the tubing does not reach the floor or ground, connect multiple pieces of tubing using an elbow connector, and push each end firmly into the connector.
Insert the bottom of the vinyl tubing onto the outflow valve of a fountain pump. Insert the pump into a bucket or basin, and fill the container with water until submerging the pump. Plug the pump’s electrical cord into an electrical outlet.
