How to Glue Insulation Board to Garage Doors

The doors are a major source of heat loss in most garages. Even if your garage isn't heated, if it's connected to your house, you can increase your home's comfort by insulating your garage door. This will keep the garage somewhat warmer even if there isn't a heat source in the garage itself. If you do have a heated garage, you should definitely have an insulated garage door to avoid paying a fortune to heat the driveway outside your home.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the width and length of one panel of your garage door.

    • 2

Cut a piece of 2-inch-thick rigid foam insulation board to the size of the garage door panel.

    • 3

Spread a bead of construction adhesive on one face of the rigid foam insulation board in a zigzag pattern.

    • 4

Press the insulation board against the face of the garage door panel so the construction adhesive makes solid contact with the surface of the door.

    • 5

Maintain the foam board's pressure against the face of the door by leaning several 2-inch by 4-inch boards against the foam board so they extend from the foam board to the garage floor. Brace the bottoms of the 2-inch by 4-inch boards with cinder blocks so that the boards don't move. Leave these in place overnight. In the morning, the construction adhesive will be dry, and the rigid foam insulation board will be firmly adhered to the interior surface of the garage door.
