How to Build the Floor for an Outdoor Shower Deck

Outdoor showers are practical features for locations like beach houses -- you can rinse off the accumulation of sand and salt without tracking it indoors and keep things clean inside. One important part of an outdoor shower is the floor, or shower deck. The deck should be raised to allow water, sand and dirt to pass through, and you should be able to remove the deck for cleaning underneath. Building an outdoor shower deck involves some basic carpentry skills, tools and the right materials.

Tape measure
2-by-4 inch pressure-treated lumber
Circular saw
Stainless-steel wood screws
Screwdriver

  Measure the width and depth of the shower floor area with a tape measure.

  Cut two 2-by-4 inch boards to match the width of the floor. Cut three pieces of lumber to match the depth, less 4 inches. Place the first two boards on the ground, parallel to each other, resting on the 2-inch sides of the boards. Place the three boards in between and perpendicular to the first two. Arrange two boards even with the ends of the first two, and the third exactly in the middle. Screw the boards together with stainless steel wood screws, using two screws at each point where the boards intersect.

  Cut a 2-by-4 to match the width of the floor. Lay the board on top of the frame you've created in the previous step, parallel with the first two boards you laid down for the frame, and even with the side of the frame. Attach the board to the frame with two wood screws at each point it overlaps the perpendicular boards.

  Cut a second 2-by-4 to the same measurement. Place it parallel to the board from the previous step, and spaced 1/2 inch away. Secure it to the frame with wood screws.

  Continue cutting and securing boards to the frame until the floor is completed. Place the floor in the outside shower.
