The proper application of Armortec blocking can protect already poured concrete. A product of the U.K., Armortec is an interlocking block system designed to be a flexible foundation or layer of protection for set foundations. Instructions

    • 1

Sweep off the existing concrete. Begin the project with a dirt- and debris-free area.

    • 2

Cover the area with Geotextile sheeting, which is available from Armortec. Cut the sheeting to fit the area using a utility knife.

    • 3

Frame around the area with 1-by-4-inch boards. Place the boards against the outside edge of the existing concrete area. Pound small wooden stakes on the outer side to hold in place.

    • 4

Lay the first row of Armortec interlocking blocks. Begin on the left side, aligning the first block at the 90 degree angle of the frame. Place the second block to the right, flush to the first. Continue to the opposite edge. Cutting of the last block may be necessary for proper fit. Measure the block carefully and use a masonry cutter to cut the block.

    • 5

Interlock the second row of Armortec blocks into the first. The pieces fit together much like a puzzle. Repeat the interlocking of blocks to cover the entire area.

    • 6

Fill in the open spaces of the Armortec blocks with sand or gravel. Use a shovel to fill the holes almost to the top, or completely hide the blocking system with a level covering of sand or gravel.
