How to Assemble a Sears Shed

Assembling a prefabricated shed much is easier than building an original. Prefabricated sheds can be a less expensive way to store things that won't fit in the garage. While models vary, sheds from Sears typically may be assembled easily in an afternoon.

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare the foundation. It is possible to assemble the shed on bare earth or on grass, but it will be a more durable building if it sits on a formal foundation. Consider pouring a concrete slab or building a ground-level wood deck to serve as a foundation. Simpler foundations, such as crushed gravel, also work. Choose a level area that is well-drained, meaning water does not collect when it rains.

    • 2

Unpack the shed and lay out the parts in roughly the configuration they will take in the finished product. This varies from model to model, but there should be a diagram in the packaging. The parts will be labeled. Be careful not to lose any parts.

    • 3

Assemble related parts to make the sub-structures of the shed. This process will vary by model, but for example, this would involve screwing panels together creating four wall pieces that will later be joined. Similarly, screw panels together to create the floor of the shed.

    • 4

Screw edge pieces around the edges of the four walls and the floor. These edges will bear much of the load of the structure.

    • 5

Screw the walls of the shed together. Don't tighten the screws all the way. After the walls are held together lightly, check the top edge of the structure to see that it is level. Push gently on the walls to flex the structure slightly to make small adjustments. Once in place, tighten all the screws fully, being careful not to over-tighten them.

    • 6

Snap hinges into the prefabricated holes on the edges of the doorway. Secure doors onto the hinges.

    • 7

Assemble the headers by fitting the pieces together, aligning brackets and turning screws into the pre-drilled holes. Using the step-ladder, place the headers at either end of the shed and screw them into place.

    • 8

Assemble the ridge beams by fitting the slender end of one piece into the wider end of another and screwing them together. Place ridge beams in the pre-fabricated slots in the header and secure them with screws.

    • 9

Secure roof panels into the ridge beams with screws.
