How to Stake Down a Screen Porch

Screen porches are a very useful addition to your camping equipment. With a minimum of difficulty, you add another room of living space to your RV, camper or tent. The screen porch is ideal for relaxing, dining or sleeping. It is covered on top to protect you from sun and rain and the screen walls keep out insects, while allowing you outside air circulation and full visibility. Camping trips lasting over several days are made much more comfortable and enjoyable with the addition of a screen porch.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the screen porch on smooth, level ground and spread it out as close as possible to its setup position.

    • 2

Fold back all ground flaps toward the center of the tent, exposing the screen porch metal anchor rings.

    • 3

Place a 9-inch-long metal tent stake into the grommet with the hook on the end, pointing away from the tent.

    • 4

Use a heavy rubber mallet to hammer the metal stake through the metal ring at a 45-degree angle, pointing away from the tent and completely into the ground. The metal hook on the end of the stake must loop over the metal ring. Continue hammering until the hook is flush with the ground.

    • 5

Stretch the screen porch fabric away from the first stake without pulling it too tightly. Locate the next metal ring and hammer in the metal stake. Continue this process until the ground level anchor grommets are staked down.

    • 6

Locate any metal anchor rings, depending on the style of screen porch, that may exist midway up the walls and require staking down with guy wires.

    • 7

Attach guy wires to the metal ring and stretch taut in a straight line away from the metal ring. Drive a stake into the ground using the same process you used for the previous stakes.
