Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect any power or other utilities that run to the shed. Remove the apparatus for those utilities by prying out the individual electrical or water lines using a pry bar. Set this equipment aside for possible future reuse.

    • 2

Removing valuable materials from the shed prevents their damage during deconstruction. Remove windows, doors, fixtures and other hardware, and then set them aside in a safe place.

    • 3

Remove the roof first, saving as much material as possible for future use. Slide a pry bar or utility knife under the roofing shingles and completely remove them. Keeping the area around the shed clear during this process avoids accidental injury from falling materials. Remove the roofing panels under the shingles by unscrewing them or by prying them with a pry bar. Cut the panels off with a reciprocating saw as a last resort, using an all-purpose blade for cutting wood and screws. Throw each roof section off and haul it away.

    • 4

Remove the shed rafters and beams by unscrewing them from their joist or unscrewing the joists from the walls. Use an assistant to maneuver each rafter or joist off the structure and off to the side.

    • 5

Separate the walls by prying apart the boards next to each other at the corners. Use a reciprocating saw if necessary to cut down and through each corner where the walls connect. Pry the wall’s frame up from the foundation boards and let each separate wall fall. Cut the wall into manageable sections if desired using a reciprocating saw or by prying the boards apart along defined sections. Haul away the sections.

Pull up any floorboards with the pry bar. Cover a concrete foundation with dirt if there is a foundation, or break it up with a sledgehammer or jackhammer.
