How to Install an Aluminum Fence Between Brick Columns

Aluminum fences come in a range of styles and make attractive additions to yards when flanked by brick columns. The lightweight aluminum makes the fence easy to lift and move during the installation process. Even those inexperienced with this task can install the fence between the columns quickly and efficiently, as most aluminum fencing slides right into place between two posts.

Instructions

    • 1

Dig two post holes between the brick columns, spaced appropriately for the size of your aluminum fence panels. Use a post hole digger by grasping the two handles and thrusting into the earth. Pull the handles apart to capture a plug of dirt. Remove from the hole and empty. Continue until the hole is approximately 2 feet deep and 1 foot wide. Install additional posts if the space between the brick columns is large.

Add concrete mix and water to a bucket in the ratio dictated by your specific brand. Mix together with a garden hoe. Fill each hole with concrete and insert one fence post in each hole. Ensure the posts are standing straight by holding a level against the side of each one. Adjust the posts if necessary. Smooth the concrete around the post with a trowel for a even finish. Allow the concrete to set for at least 48 hours.

Measure the distance between the fence posts. Cut the aluminum fencing based on the measurements, using a hacksaw.

Install the fence panels between the fence posts to complete the process. Hold the aluminum fence panel upright. Line the rail portions of the aluminum fence panel up with the pre-made holes in one fence post. Slide the rails into the holes on the post. Push the rails in as far as possible. Line the rails on the other side of the panel up with the holes on the other post. Pull the fence panel gently until the rails slide into place on the other post. This way, the rails on each side of the fence panel rest in the pre-made holes in the post.
