Place two shims on the floor of the shed in the door frame's rough opening, just inside the framing members. The thickest edges of the shims must face the outside of the shed. The shims will allow minor adjustments of the side jambs as you install the door.
Place the pre-hung door in the opening, with the lower edges of the side jambs resting on the shims. Center the door from side to side. Place a shim at the center top of the door, between the jamb and the frame. Insert two evenly spaced shims between each side jamb and corresponding framing member.
Open the door. Place a carpenter's level along the inside of the side jambs. This will tell you if the door is leaning to the left or right. Adjust the position of the shims by wiggling them farther out or farther into the gaps between the frame and the jambs.
Place the carpenter's level against the front of the side jambs. This will tell you if the door is leaning forward or backward. Adjust the position of the shims on the bottom and top of the door to plumb the door. After each adjustment of the shims, check to see if the door is plumb. Once you have plumbed the door in two planes, it is ready to be secured to the rough opening.
Screw the door jambs to the framing members. Where there is a shim, screw through the jamb, the shim and then the frame. The top jamb should be attached with three evenly spaced screws along its length. The side jambs should be attached with four or five evenly spaced screws.
Trim the excess shim material with a hand saw.
