Measure the width of the mailbox door. Use this measurement to make the bill of the baseball hat.
Draw an arc shape of a baseball bill, the width of the mailbox and 3 inches long, on the piece of plywood. Use the thickest piece of plywood available to create a strong bill.
Put on safety glasses. Set the plywood on the edge of your worktable and cut the shape out of the plywood using the jigsaw.
Paint the plywood bill with a coat of primer. Use the paintbrush to apply even strokes. Let the primer dry for one to two hours.
Apply two to three coats of outdoor water-based paint to the bill. Let the paint dry for an hour before you apply each coat. Let the final coat dry overnight.
Remove the flag and handle from the mailbox. Spray-paint the mailbox in the coordinating color of the team’s baseball hat. Use paint designed specifically for metallic surfaces. Let the paint dry overnight.
Paint the round magnet the same color as the bill. Set the magnet on top of the mailbox, in the center, to mimic the button on the top of a baseball hat.
Draw six seam lines on the mailbox with a thin artist paintbrush and the paint used for the bill. Beginning at the magnet, draw the three lines on each side down to the bottom edge of the mailbox. Slightly curve the lines so they flare out at the bottom and are about 6 inches apart, to create the illusion of the top of a baseball hat.
Align the wooden bill 1/4 inch beneath the door of the mailbox. Drill three holes beneath the door of the mailbox. Secure the wooden bill to the mailbox with screws.
Paint a logo and the house's street number on the front of the door, above the wooden bill. Reattach the flag to the side of the mailbox.
