How to Make a Driveway Guard

A driveway guard is a visible piece of netting that stretches from one side of the driveway to the other. Its purpose is to protect your children as they play by providing a visible barrier that deters cars from turning into it. The guard also serves as a visual reminder to the children, helping them to remember not to go in the street.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the width of your driveway to determine the length of netting you’ll need. Add six inches to the measurement. Cut a piece of orange mesh netting as long as the measurement and 40 inches tall.

    • 2

Cut two pieces of PVC pipe that are 40 inches tall.

    • 3

Spread out one end of the netting on a clean, flat work surface. Spray a layer of adhesive onto one PVC pipe. Wrap three inches of the netting around the PVC pipe and let the adhesive dry.

    • 4

Roll up the netting around the PVC pipe, which acts as a spool. Leave three inches free. Apply spray adhesive onto the other pipe and attach the three inches of netting to the other side. The pipes and the netting act as a scroll, which you unroll to span the driveway.

    • 5

Cut two pieces of PVC piping that has a circumference small enough to smoothly fit inside the PVC pipes which hold the netting. Make the pipe pieces 20 inches tall.

    • 6

Insert the 20-inch PVC pipe pieces into the ground on opposite sides of your driveway. Stick one PVC pipe from the netting scroll over the end of one PVC pipe in the ground. Unroll the scroll and slip the other pipe over the ground pipe to use the driveway guard.
