Prime the bare support posts and then paint them with paint and a paintbrush. Paint gives the posts a fresh new look while adding some color to the front of your home. For example, use fresh white paint to create a classical look, or use a vibrant rose or a pale green for a Victorian look.
Attach one end of a long fake ivy vine to the top of the post using hot glue or a staple gun and then wind it down the length of the post. This gives the post a leafy, natural look that is perfect for a home that prioritizes greenery and organic shapes. You can create the look of a leafy bower on your porch if you have enough support posts. You may also use grape vines complete with fake bunches of grapes for this purpose.
Use a saw to cut strips of wood molding that match the sides of the posts and then attach them to the posts using wood glue. This gives you the look of intricately carved wood pillars. You may leave the molding as it is, or you can stain it or paint it before attaching it to the posts.
Tape one end of a long paper streamer to the top of the post and then wind the paper around the post to give it a striped barber pole look. Attach it to the post with tape again at the bottom to secure it. This is a temporary cover, but it is perfect when you are decorating your home for a party.
