How to Build an Archway Over the Driveway From PVC

PVC pipe with a small diameter is bendable and can be used to create an archway over your driveway. This is useful for holiday, party or wedding decorations. If you make multiple arches of the same size along the length of your driveway, you can use the arches as a framework for strings of lights or garlands of tinsel. Constructing PVC pipe archways is not complicated, and you can remove them at the end of the holiday season. In addition, you can store the parts and put them back up next year.

Instructions

    • 1

Drive a 4-foot length of ¼-inch rebar into the ground at the end of the driveway on one side. Hammer it into the ground about 18 inches. Drive another piece of rebar into the ground on the opposite side of the driveway.

    • 2

Cut a piece of ¼-inch diameter PVC pipe to a length of 15 or 20 feet. The length will depend on the width of your driveway and how high you want your arches. If you want a half-circle arch, measure the width of the driveway and multiply by 1.57 to get the length of PVC pipe. If you want a taller arch, add 2 or 3 feet. For taller arches, this step requires some trial and error. Buy extra PVC pipe to allow for this.

    • 3

Slide one end of the PVC pipe over the end of the rebar on one side of the driveway. Bend it to the other side of the driveway and slide the other end over the other piece of rebar to anchor it.

Repeat Steps 1 through 3 for each additional arch along the length of the driveway. Space the arches every 2 or 3 feet according to the way you want it to look. In general, the more arches the better it will look.
