How to Build a Sprinkler System for a Greenhouse

Greenhouses don't use the same type of sprinkler system that you use on your lawns. Instead, you must install a drip irrigation system to ensure that you get the proper amount of water to all your plants. Installing such a system is not challenging; however, you have to plan where you want the water to hit your plants ahead of time to install such a system correctly.

Things You'll Need

  • Hose fitting
  • 1/2-inch diameter tubing
  • Hose
  • T-shaped piping
  • Rubber mallet
  • Misting stakes
  • Mulch

Instructions

    • 1

Attach the hose fitting to the 1/2-inch diameter tubing. Lock the fitting onto the tubing by pushing the locking ring up over the tubing and twisting counterclockwise until it locks. Turn on the hose to flush out debris.

    • 2

Lay the tubing along the greenhouse floor where you want it. If you want your sprinklers to go in different directions, attach T-shaped piping to the tubing wherever you want it.

    • 3

Determine where you want your sprinklers. Mark the areas where you will install sprinklers on the tubing and punch holes. Place the barbed end of the misting stakes through the holes you made and use a rubber mallet to insert the other end of the stakes into the ground.

Put the end fitting on the tubing. Fold the tubing over and put it through the hole on the fitting to seal the tubing. Turn on the water and make sure there are no leaks and that the water goes in all the directions you want. Turn off the water. Use a repair kit to patch any leaks. Place mulch over the tubing to finish the project when all leaks are repaired.
