How to Make a Waterfall for Floral Competition

Flower lovers and gardeners often enter and compete in floral competitions. However, the blooms aren’t the only parts of the display that have to be appealing -- details and decor are front-and-center, too. Make your floral display stand out by adding a small waterfall --- you never know, it just may win you the blue ribbon. Creating a waterfall, of any kind, is a two-part process: the waterfall itself will need to be created, as well as a structure for the water to fall into. Small waterfalls won’t take too much money or time to build yourself.

  • Small tub for water
  • Large display tub
  • Dirt
  • Landscaping brick
  • Water course

Instructions

    • 1

Place the water tub in the larger tub that you’ll be using for the floral display. Pack the water tub in tightly by filling the larger tub with dirt. The dirt should be even with the brim of the smaller water tub without overflowing into it.

    • 2

Place the landscape brick on the dirt, lengthwise, approximately 6 inches off to one side of the hole. This landscaping brick is going to act as the base for the top part of the waterfall.

    • 3

Place the water course atop the brick, hanging the spout out 4 inches over the tub.

    • 4

Pack dirt around the brick as well as the bottom and back of the water spout. The water spout should be kept in place, but dirt shouldn’t be in the way of where the water will flow.

    • 5

Fill the small water tub with water. Place the plastic pot from the fountain pump package in the tub, upside down.

    • 6

Put the pump on top of the upside down plastic pot. Lace the fountain pump tubing around the back of the setup to hide it.

    • 7

Put two stones on the sides of the tubing. Place a flag stone across the top of the two stones.

    • 8

Arrange plants and flowers around the waterfall system to hide unnatural elements.
