The Best Color Greenhouse Siding

If you have a greenhouse or are building one, some considerations must be made to create the best environment for your plants. If your greenhouse is attached to your home or garage, the siding located there might need a color change. Some colors are better than others for a greenhouse.
  1. Greenhouse

    • A greenhouse is a building that is specifically built for growing plants. It can be a freestanding or an attached building and can range in size. A greenhouse is designed in such a way that it receives the maximum amount of sunlight and the heat from the sunlight does not escape. Inside the greenhouse, the temperature, humidity and light usually are controlled to some degree to create an ideal environment for plants to thrive.

    Frame Color

    • Most of the greenhouse is made from a translucent cover, but there is a frame that supports this cover. The frame should be painted a light color, such as white. Dark colors absorb sunlight. A light frame reflects the light so it can reach the inside of the greenhouse. In addition, the frame should be thin so it does not cast a large shadow inside the greenhouse.

    Siding Color

    • Greenhouses are not finished with siding. However, if a greenhouse is built as an attachment to a sided house or a garage, it could be beneficial to replace or paint the siding on that particular side, especially the section of siding that is inside the new greenhouse. Like a dark frame, dark siding absorbs heat, taking it away from the plants. The siding should be a light color, ideally white. White reflects the most light, thereby reflecting more light to the plants than other colors do.

    Other Colors

    • Everything except the plants and their pots in the greenhouse should be a light color, preferably white. This includes the floor, tables, hoses, watering buckets and other materials. Save the dark colors for the planting pots so they can absorb the sunlight and warm the plant roots.
