How to Install a Walk-in Cooler Floor Panel

Like a house, a walk-in cooler is only as good as its foundation. A poorly set and assembled set of floor panels will cause the wall panels to sit out of square. This will cause gaps to form between the walls, floor and roof. Gaps allow cooled air to escape and make the compressor work harder to keep the inside temperature of the cooler at the correct temperature. Paying attention to key points during the floor installation will ensure the cooler functions correctly and does not prematurely wear on vital compressor components.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the floor panels next to each other. Ensure that the ends marked front are facing the same direction and that all sides of the panels sit at least two inches from a wall or column.

    • 2

Slide the sides of the panels together. Slide one end of a cam lock wrench -- supplied with the walk-in cooler -- into one of the cam lock holes punched on the top face of a floor panel. Turn the cam lock one-half turn clockwise to pull the panels tightly together. Lock all cams in position as described. Turn cam locks one-half turn counterclockwise before moving clockwise if it binds and does not engage the cam pin.

    • 3

Move the floor to its final position. Place a four-foot level on top of the floor, along the side of the floor facing a wall. Slide a pry bar under the low corner revealed by the level. Push down on the pry bar handle to raise the corner. Push stainless steel shims under the floor. Release the bar. Repeat the process until the floor is level.

    • 4

Relocate the level to a side of the floor that sits perpendicular to the leveled side. Lift and shim the second side of the floor. Move the level across the floor until all sides are shimmed level.

    • 5

Place one supplied cam button over each hole in the cooler floor. Tap each button lightly with a hammer to seal all cam holes.

    • 6

Align the wall panels with the openings in the floor panels. Secure each wall panel to the leveled floor with the cam lock wrench.
