Ways to Block Off a BBQ Grill

Having an outdoor BBQ grill is convenient for firing up tasty hamburgers, hot dogs, grilled corn and kabobs all year round. While you want the BBQ grill to be accessible to the person in charge of manning the grill, it's also important to block off the grill from various external elements. One such element, for instance, is low hanging trees, which can cause potential fire hazards if the branches and leaves hang too closely to the flames of the grill. When you have a built-in BBQ in the backyard, come up with enclosure ideas that are effective and aesthetically pleasing.

Instructions

Build a medium height patio wall around the BBQ grill to enclose it. A medium height patio wall, made from bricks and mortar, keeps the kids out, protects the grill from outside elements, such as wind and garden shrubs, and adds charm to a yard. Lay the bricks with the mortar to build the wall, which should be at least 4 feet high and long enough to surround the grill.

Line the area around the BBQ grill with hedges. Hedges are tall plants that are often used in landscaping for creating privacy. You can make a fence of hedges by placing them next to one another. Hedges, which can be purchased from a garden nursery, will likely be sold in plastic containers or buckets. If you cannot plant the hedges into the ground -- due to the BBQ grill being on concrete, brick or flagstone -- leave the hedges in their original planters, or replant them into pots that are larger.

Install a patio or yard fence around the BBQ grill. Patio and yard fences can be medium in height, but will serve as a blocking material to separate the grill from the rest of the yard. Some types of fences are freestanding, while others need to be posted into the ground.

Enclose a BBQ grill with a variety of boulders. The boulders will serve as short walls that will make the grill area feel more secluded. Leave one open space where you can access the grill, but keep the rest of the boulder wall tight.
