How to Mount an Awning on a Trailer

Americans have been traveling around the United States in trailers since the middle of the 19th century. For many, it's a dream lifestyle and an economical way to vacation. An awning is an optional component of just about every trailer on the market. An awning provides shade and an extra outdoor living space for picnics or lawn chairs. If your trailer doesn’t have an awning mount in place, you can install one yourself. Once a mount is installed, you can stretch out your awning anywhere you stop.

Instructions

Measure the area on your trailer where you want to install the awning. It should be to the side of the door or 5 to 6 inches above the door. You want to install your awning mounts 2 to 3 inches shorter than the actual awning is wide so the sides of the awning will stick out beyond the sides of the bracket for a better hold.

Place the mount over the area where you want to install it and drill its screws into your trailer with the drill. Measure over to the next mount, making sure to keep the measuring tape in a straight line, and place the other mount on the trailer. Screw it into the trailer with the drill and screws. You can drill into the trailer at any point since the screws are short enough not to damage anything and the awning is lightweight. Also, the metal body of the trailer is strong enough to support the awning.

Slide the awing pole into the awning mounts, and horizontally tighten the mounts by turning the screw-type securing mechanism on the side with your fingers.
