How to Build a Round Outdoor Shower

Tent camping is a good way to relax and unwind, but after a day or two in the great outdoors, a shower is needed. Create a portable camping shower with just a few items from your home. This round outdoor shower cleans you like a spring rainstorm, and then fold up neatly into a small plastic bag for storage.

Instructions

    • 1

Spray black paint on the outside of a 5-gallon water jug. Use two coats of paint, letting the first coat dry before adding the second. Let the paint completely dry before using the jug.

    • 2

Open a plastic umbrella. Poke holes in the umbrella’s surface. Space the holes evenly, but concentrate them in the umbrella shell’s center half.

    • 3

Fill the jug with water and set it out in the sun all day while you are camping. The black paint absorbs the sun’s rays, heating the water inside.

    • 4

Open the umbrella and hang it upside down on a tree branch at least 8 feet in the air. Choose a spot over soft grass or gravel, avoiding dirt and mud. Make sure the bottom of the umbrella is above the top of your head when you stand underneath it.

    • 5

Open the shower curtain liner and attach it to the outside of the umbrella. Poke the ends of the umbrella spokes into the holes at the top of the curtain liner. Begin and end the process at the place where you want the access door.

Step underneath the umbrella inside the shower curtain walls. Have someone pour the warmed water into the bowl shape of the upside-down umbrella. The warm water will leak out the many holes, creating an instant shower in the wilderness. The actual umbrella will be about 6 feet off the ground.
