DIY Fence Stake

Fence stakes, also called fence posts, are used to hold up a fence. The stakes are driven into the ground every 6 to 8 feet so the fence doesn’t fall over. You can create your own fence stakes out of wood. For the stake to go into the ground easily, you should make the end pointed. Coating the stake in wood-protecting finish will keep the stakes from rotting in the ground or in the rain.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase planks of wood that are about 3 inches wide and as long as you want the fence stakes to be. The stakes need to be 2 to 3 feet longer than the total height of the fence for proper support.

    • 2

Put on the goggles. Cut the bottom 6 inches of the stake at a 30-degree angle. Cut both sides of the stake to a point with the circular saw.

    • 3

Coat the wood protectant onto the stake with the paintbrush. Allow the wood protectant to dry for at least 24 hours before you use the fence stakes.

    • 4

Drive the stakes into the ground about 2 to 3 feet deep with a rubber hammer.
