Gable Antenna Installation

The gable side of a house refers to the pyramid shape formed by the two sloping sides of the roof. Installing an antenna on the gable side of a house requires an eave-mounting kit, which secures the antenna to the eaves. Other installation guidelines, such as routing the coaxial cable in the house to the receiver, remain the same as for standard roof-mount installations. A gable antenna installation can be performed on the roof or with a ladder.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate to a website that provides directions on where to point your antenna for best reception. Sites such as Antenna Web use your address and antenna type to determine the direction in which you should point your antenna for ideal results.

    • 2

Position the top bracket of the mounting kit where the two slanted sides of the roof converge on top. Mark the position of the holes in the top bracket on the eaves with a pencil.

    • 3

Line up four interior holes of the two lower mounting brackets. Secure the brackets with two 3/8-inch bolts, included with the eave mounting kit, by placing them in the two outer holes of the four aligned holes on the brackets. Screw the nuts on the bolts and tighten. Insert two long 3/8-inch bolts, also included, through the two center holes of the four aligned bracket holes and secure with the nuts. Attach the pipe strap clamp to the connected lower brackets.

    • 4

Insert the two short 3/8-inch bolts in the holes of the strap clamp. Thread the nuts on the bolts but do not tighten them. Insert the pipe in the strap clamp. Tighten the bolts in the strap clamp to secure the pole.

    • 5

Drill two pilot holes with a 1/4-inch drill bit at the two spots you marked for the upper bracket in Step 1. Drill in the facing board of the eaves. Line up the holes of the upper bracket with the pilot holes and secure it with two 1/2-inch lag screws. Drill a 1/2-inch hole where you will insert the 75-ohm coaxial cable leading from the antenna to the receiver in the house.

    • 6

Insert the pipe attached to the lower bracket in the strap clamp of the upper bracket. Lower the pipe until the lower bracket reaches the eaves. Secure the pipe in the strap clamp of the upper bracket with two short 3/8-inch bolts. Securing the pipe in the upper bracket will hold it in place as you drill the two holes in the eaves for the lower bracket.

    • 7

Mark the two mounting holes of the lower bracket on the eaves with a pencil. Drill two 1/4-inch pilot holes in the eaves at the points you marked. Place the mounting points of the lower bracket flush with the eaves at the spot you marked. Insert a 1/2-inch lag screw in each and tighten.

Insert the antenna mast in the pipe secured to the mounting brackets. Point your antenna in the direction generated by Antenna Web or a similar website. Secure the antenna with the upper bracket’s strap clamp. Run the 75-ohm coaxial cable through the 1/2-inch hole and route it to the receiver.
