Instructions

    • 1

Measure the width of the driveway and add 6 to 12 inches. Mark the area on both sides of the driveway where the two front support poles will go. Walk down the driveway until you reach the wanted length of the driveway canopy. Mark the area on both sides of the driveway where the two back support poles will go.

    • 2

Create the four support holes with a post digger according to the marks you made in the previous steps. Use four support poles that will each measure the desired height of the driveway canopy. Affix a large eye screw to the top of each support pole.

    • 3

Insert the poles in the middle of each hole with the eye screw facing upward toward the sky. Use gravel to fill the holes and keep the poles in place. Alternatively, use cement following manufacturer instructions to secure the poles in place.

    • 4

Cut a thick piece of outdoor canvas according to the width and length measurements taken in Step 1. Fold the edges of the canvas back and secure with a sewing machine and thick thread. This hem will keep the fabric from unraveling and fraying.

    • 5

Affix a grommet at each corner of the cut outdoor canvas with a grommet setter. Thread a 2- to 3-foot-long piece of outdoor rope through each grommet. Use a ladder to access the top of the support poles.

    • 6

Insert each piece of rope attached to the canvas through the corresponding eye screw attached to the top of the poles. Tie the rope in a double knot to secure it in place.
