Instructions

  1. Preparing the Drum Bottom

    • 1

Separate the top of the lazy Susan from the bottom.

    • 2

Turn the top of the lazy Susan over. Divide the bottom of it into four sections with the pencil and ruler. Mark the center of each of the four sections, 5 inches in from the rim.

    • 3

Drill a hole all the way through the lazy Susan at each of the four center marks.

    • 4

Turn the storage drum upside down.

    • 5

Set the top of the lazy Susan face down and center it on the bottom of the drum.

    • 6

Use the drill holes in the lazy Susan to mark the bottom of the drum with the pencil.

    • 7

Remove the top of the lazy Susan.

    • 8

Drill holes in the bottom of the drum at the points you marked.

    • 9

Turn the top of the lazy Susan upside down and center it over the holes on the bottom of the drum.

    • 10

Insert the bolts through the lazy Susan and drum. Duct tape the lazy Susan and the bolts into place.

    • 11

Turn the drum over on its side. Place a lock washer on each of the carriage bolts. Screw a nut on each bolt. Remove the duct tape.

    Creating the Base

    • 12

Clear and level a location in the playground where the rotating drum is to be mounted.

    • 13

Dig a hole 3 feet deep and 2 feet in diameter.

    • 14

Insert the cement form into the hole. Mix the cement in the bucket and pour it into the hole.

    • 15

Place the bottom of the lazy Susan into the top of the cement. Check its levelness with the level and adjust as needed. Let the cement set.

    Assembly

    • 16

Hold the combined drum and top part of the lazy Susan over the bottom of the lazy Susan. Set the top part of the lazy Susan into the bottom part, fitting them back together.

    • 17

Check to make sure nothing is blocking the drum from turning.

    • 18

Add the sand to the drum. Put the lid on the drum.
