Making a Metal Mold for Bricks

Making bricks is a way to give a home-improvement project a unique personal touch. Molding bricks is a simple process -- the mold is a simple rectangular box that hinges to open and allow the wet brick to be removed before baking. Molds can be made out of commonly available parts, with little time and effort.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the aluminum sheet with the tin snips to the following dimensions: two pieces that are 8-by-2.5 inches, two pieces that are 2.5-by-4 inches. Crimp over the sharp edges using the pliers.

    • 2

Attach hinges between the edges of these pieces to create a rectangle shape, with all four pieces connected by their 2.5-inch side. Drill through the sheet with a bit that is slightly narrower than the screws you will later use. Put in holes in places that will correspond with the predrilled holes in the hinges. Put screws through the predrilled holes in the hinge, into the pilot holes in the sheeting. Do this at three of the corners of the mold.

At one of the four corners, install a latch instead of a hinge, so you'll be able to open the mold and remove the brick without upsetting it. Install the latch hardware in the same way as the hinges, drilling and then putting through a screw.
