Curved Paver Walkway Ideas

Using pavers to create walkways and paths may be an ideal choice for some homeowners. Pavers are an inexpensive alternative to using bricks or natural stones, and are available in brick and stone-like effects. Pavers come in many sizes and colors, which make them ideal for a person who wishes to blend different pavers together to create his own personalized pattern.
  1. Cobblestone

    • Cobblestones have added character and definition to streets and walkways for many years. An inexpensive method of achieving the cobblestone-like effect for curved walkways is by using paver stones. Installing a paver walkway in a cobblestone pattern may be challenging; however, this method will add character and certain flair to any area. A variety of pavers in several sizes and colors, are set on a diagonal will be sufficient to achieve the desired cobblestone effect. A more solid course pattern, in which a row of bricks is oriented in the same direction, with only the ends visible, will add the final touch to the walkway.

    Circular

    • A popular design for paver walkways is the circular design. This method of placement is best for patio areas or other seating areas as it creates a focal point. If an area is not circular, the inside portion of the walkway may be placed in a circular pattern, and the edges framed in a straight pattern. If the entire area is circular, the pavers can be placed by following the natural curve of the area. Install the walkway by layering bricks around the outside, installing until you reach the center. Center bricks may be cut to fit if necessary. For added interest, you can use many different colors of pavers when installing a circular walkway.

    Meandering

    • A meandering and curved path created by paver stones adds movement and interest to an area. This pattern is created by placing rows of the pavers in the same direction, which creates a directional flow. The pavers used are generally the same size throughout the path, while the colors of the pavers may be the same or a blend of colors. This pattern is ideal for areas such as garden paths. A matching or contrasting edge that frames the path will add depth to the overall view; however, leaving the path unframed also brings added interest.
