How to Install Unilock Circle Pavers

Unilock is the original manufacturer of concrete paving stones in North America. The company introduced the paver stone in 1972. To complete your own Unilock circle paver project, first you will need all the necessary tools to help you do the job right. Installing a circle paver patio is not the most difficult work in the world but it does require some heavy lifting and labor. But if you are willing to put in the work, you can normally complete a circle paver project over the course of a weekend.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure and mark off the circle area where you will install the pavers. Place a wood stake in the ground in the center of the circle, and tie a string to it that is the length of the radius of your desired paver patio size. Loop the end of the string around a can of spray paint, extend the string outward until it is taut, and walk around in a circle while spraying the boundary for your paver area.

    • 2

Remove the wood stake and string, and excavate a hole within the area you marked off. The hole should be about 10 inches deep.

    • 3

Add two inches of crushed gravel into the area you excavated. Compact the gravel with either a hand tamper or plate compactor.

    • 4

Add one inch of base sand on top of the gravel base. Smooth out the sand so it is even all the way across the surface.

    • 5

Place the center paver in the middle of the building area. Then, set the first ring of pavers around the center paver.

    • 6

Set the rest of the pavers, and set each ring of pavers according to the Unilock layout diagram. Depending on the specific Unilock circle paver set you buy, the pavers may be labeled. If this is the case, install them in the order in which they are labeled.

    • 7

Once you have installed all the circle pavers, install the paver edging around the perimeter of the circle. Follow the instructions that came with the edge material. In most cases, you will secure the edging by driving stakes through slots in the edging and into the perimeter wall.

    • 8

Dump bonding sand on top of the pavers, and use a broom to spread the sand around and into the spaces between your pavers. Repeat this process until all the joints are filled.

    • 9

Run the plate compactor over the pavers to set them in the sand securely.

    • 10

Add more sand if necessary, and spray a light mist of water onto the joints so the bonding sand sets. Let the pavers dry for 12 hours before walking on them.
