Remove the damaged concrete. Use a concrete saw to cut the area in a square with straight edges, to ensure the seals are tight to keep water from seeping in between the patch and existing concrete. When the weather turns cold, water inside any cracks causes the asphalt patch to crack and separate.
Sweep away any debris left from the broken concrete removal. Use an air compressor to remove any debris from inside the hole and spray the inside of the hole with water. Some liquid is necessary for optimal compaction.
Prepare the asphalt mixture according to the manufacturer's directions.
Pour the asphalt into the prepared square area. Use enough asphalt to completely fill the hole when compacted. For instance, if the concrete hole measures 6 inches deep, prepare a third more of the asphalt mixture to fill the hole. This allows for a decrease when the asphalt is compacted leaving a nice level surface.
Use an asphalt compactor or vibratory tamper and compact the asphalt. The square edge makes compacting along the straight edges easier to achieve and there is no concave.
