How to Put Your Name & Handprints in a Freshly Poured Driveway

Many families have fond memories of impressions made in freshly poured concrete of past homes and driveways. It only takes a few moments and costs nothing. Every member of the family can participate, even pets if they will stand still long enough. Placing handprints and names into newly poured concrete is a way to make an impression of family history that will last for generations in many climates.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide what you would like to have in your design. Handprints, footprints, names and pet footprints are all nice ideas to incorporate.

    • 2

Ask all members of the family to wear short sleeves and roll up their pant legs to avoid getting cement on clothing.

    • 3

Fill a bucket with warm water and have soap ready for everyone to clean up directly after leaving handprints or footprints.

    • 4

Wait until the concrete has dried for 20 to 30 minutes before leaving impressions to make sure the shape will hold. Then have each family member place hands or feet firmly in the concrete for a few seconds.

    • 5

Write names and dates with a long sharp object such as a stick.
