DIY Fiber Reinforced Concrete

While a normal concrete mixture is strong, it can be made to be much stronger by adding in some fiber to the mixture. Most of the time the fiber is glass and although pretty weak in itself, the fiber helps the concrete hold together better. Adding glass fiber to your concrete is a quick and affordable process that will leave you with much stronger results.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a low slump concrete mixture that can stand on its own when placed inside a form. Mix the concrete inside a wheelbarrow with a spade according to the manufacturer's directions.

    • 2

Line your concrete form with a 1/8-inch layer of your low slump concrete to create the finish layer. This layer will hide the rough fiber-reinforced concrete.

    • 3

Mix up equal parts sand and cement as well as AR glass that weighs less than four percent of the whole mixture to create your fiber filled cement. Add an acrylic emulsion that is equal to five percent of the total mixture weight. Add additional water to the mixture until you get a thick mix that you can pour.

    • 4

Pour your newly made fiber filled concrete in to the form on top of the finish concrete you poured earlier.

    • 5

Spread a layer of the low slump concrete over the top of the fiber filled mixture.
