How to Prepare Soil for Pavers

In order to create a patio, walkway or driveway out of concrete or paving stone, you have to prepare the soil ground. Soil must be removed in some places so the cement or paving stone the pavers put down is level with the ground and not sticking up 2 to 3 inches above it. The topsoil can be removed and used somewhere else.

Instructions

    • 1

Stake off the area that is going to be paved and tie twines to the stakes to create a boundary around it.

    • 2

Remove 6 to 9 inches of topsoil from the targeted area. Do not disturb the subsoil.

    • 3

Create a slope of 1 inch for every 4 inches in the length of the area to be paved to facilitate drainage.
